November in Cape Town has seen a couple of traditions starting up. Daddy sneaks away for a weekend at the beginning of the month to ride Wines 2 Whales and our KZN family visit us for Warricks birthday week. Imagine that, celebrating your birthday for an entire week.
Granny and Granddad Mac arrived on the Monday afternoon (Warricks actual birthday) followed by Claire, James and Nicholas on Thursday. Each new arrival came bearing greetings and gifts.
The original day chosen for the party was the Saturday the 24th but was moved forward to Friday thanks to the WINDFINDER long range forcast. As it happened Friday was the perfect day for a swimming party and Saturday the perfect day to stay inside and watch sport on the couch. Moving the party forward also enabled a few more of Warricks buddies to come to the party.
This year Warrick chose the theme for the
party and it was “Flags of the World”. A unique idea that had us scratching our heads for a while. Ali had some good ideas though and with a bit of help from the family we pulled it off. We had flag posters, flag cupcakes, a flag soccer ball, a globe cake with little flags on toothpicks and each party box had a flag badge from varying countries. You could say the party was fun and educational.
We are starting to employ the theory that “if it aint broke don’t fix it” so the giant “Whale water slide” made another appearance for the second year running. I say giant but it turns out that this is a smaller version of the one we had last year which was a bit of a relief. It was also a relief when the last party guests left without injury.
Happy Birthday Warrick we love you very much and continue to be amazed by your character and zest for life. We are so proud of you and you inspire us to be the best parents we can be. Here’s looking forward to another great year, all the best Mom and Dad.
