September 2012

It has been a fun filled September. We thought spring had come right on time as the first week of September was splendid, the Cape Town weather then did its’ usual thing and dumped a ton of water on everything. We have still had a couple of decent days between the fronts though and managed to take the boys to their usual haunts on the odd dry weekend day.

We took Dylan and Warrick to the “Blue Train” at Mouille point, it was to be Dylsie’s first time. As it turned out the train was not working! Well not much we could do about that but the boys had fun anyway on the bike track and climbing walls. Every now and then they would start the train up which got us all very excited. Each time it spluttered to a stop within a couple of minutes. Dylan seemed to handle it all quite well but I suspect this was because he thought that this is what the “Blue Train” was supposed to do.

We decided to take the boys on a real train the following weekend. We jumped on the “Metrorail” at Retreat and got off again at Fish Hoek. We still haven’t got over our rookie train jitters. When the train gets to the platform you have 30 seconds before the doors close again. That seems reasonable enough if you are on your own but with a couple of boys a pram and two bags this can be quite stressful. Dylan makes life particularly interesting and tried to get off again at the first couple stops. I had visions of the train pulling off with him still on the platform, bye, bye Dylsie hope you know your way home.

Fish Hoek was great. The beach seems to be really quite big at the moment giving the boys lots of space to run about. Dylan, Mom and Dad did most of the running while Warrick created a sea shell castle. They have upgraded the play park quite nicely, what used to be sand and bottle tops is now artificial grass. After some milkshakes and pancakes at the “Fish Hoek Gallery” we made our way back to the train station. The rest of the trip was uneventful which is just as well because we were all exhausted.

I suppose it is no great surprise then that Warrick is enjoying building his wooden train set. He can build it up from scratch following the instructions which we think is really impressive. There’s never much time to admire it though because before too long Dylan will ride over it on his black bike. This bugs Warrick no end, it’s tough being the oldest.

Shame, pity the train was not working – Dylsie would have loved that! Hope it’s soon up and running. Fabulous photos! So pleased you were all able to go to Fishoek on the proper train – must have been really exciting for Dylsie (probably a bit oldhat now for Warrick!) Am looking forward to doing this trip in November with Grandad in tow! Cheers for now, J.
