On Sunday we went to the “Crocodile Farm” near Franschoek. It’s a 45 minute drive that we thoroughly enjoyed with all the mountain peaks covered in snow.
We took the 20 minute croc tour given by Graham, the Nile Crocodile expert. The farm has about 700 crocodiles waiting to be made into handbags. This happens when they are three years old and I imagine that this is when their leather is at it best. The boys listened intently to Graham’s little lecture and

came away knowing more than me, which is no real supprise. Dylan was the one who later explained to me that the red tagged crocs were “boys” and the green ones were “girls”.
Graham was quite a pearler making the odd lame joke, “we don’t feed the crocodiles by hand here because then you can only feed them twice”, drum roll – cymbal.
It’s quite a nice place for an outing with the family it has a lovely “picnic lawn” a restaurant and jungle gym area. It also has a little shop where you can buy some croc memorabilia. A handbag will set you back R32,000 and a nice little key ring goes for R250.
We had quite a bit of fun there but it’s probably only worth a visit once a year.
